Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic Health or Women’s Health Physio is a specialised area of physiotherapy that assesses and treats conditions affecting the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles and general pelvic region. These are often linked to (but not exclusively) pregnancy and child birth.

Pelvic Health Services:

Pelvic Health Appointment:
  • Assessment and treatment of a range of conditions including incontinence, vaginal prolapse, pelvic pain, overactive bladder and bladder urgency and diastasis recti (abdominal separation).
  • Sessions are 45-60min long and follow ups arranged as required. 
Pre and Postpartum Physiotherapy:
Pregnancy WOF:
  • A general pregnancy check up ideally at around 20 weeks of pregnancy but can be done any time during the 2nd and 3rd trimester.
  • Session includes general information to support your pregnancy, a pelvic floor assessment, exercise advice and plan, advice and treatment on pelvic girdle pain and written information to take home. 
Birth Preparation Appointment:
  • This session is ideally done around 34-36 weeks of pregnancy and ideally will have had a pregnancy WOF prior.
  • Session includes active labour strategies, perineal massage information, pelvic floor relaxation techniques for birth, initial postnatal advice, exercise for the postnatal period and written information to take home.

Early Postpartum Appointment:
  • This session is done at 2-3 weeks post birth in order to tailor your rehab specifically to the birth experienced.
  • The session includes a rehab plan and pelvic floor exercises designed specially to you and your birth. Also useful if you have any specific concerns.
  • Please note a pelvic floor assessment is NOT performed during this assessment and will need to be done at the 6 week WOF.
The Postoartum WOF
  • This is ideally done at 6 weeks post birth but can be done weeks or months down the track. This is your overall checkup and comprehensive return to exercise plan.
  • This session includes general recovery information, a comprehensive pelvic floor assessment, diastasis recti assessment and return to exercise plan.
Return to Run Assessment:
  • This can be done any time from 3 months post birth and is a comprehensive assessment to see you if are ready to run and a plan to help you get back.

Fees:

Initial Pelvic Health Appointment (Including all Pre and Postpartum Initial Appointments) – $140

Follow Up Pelvic Health Appointment – $80

ACC Initial Maternal Birth Injury Appointment  – $90

ACC Follow Up Maternal Birth Injury Appointment – $50
