The Project Mum Pathway

If you are an active female, planning to get pregnant, newly pregnant or postpartum, and unsure how best to care for your body and get back to doing what you love postpartum……this is for you.

The Project Mum Pathway is a comprehensive guide to supporting you every step of the way, from conception to return to exercise.

A timeframe for pelvic health appointments:

In pregnancy, we can do many things to support your body, prepare your pelvic floor and abdominal wall and understand birth choices. We know that when women go into birth with good knowledge and awareness of their body, what it is capable of and what’s most important to them, they have reduced birth injury rates, more positive birth experiences, improved mental health outcomes and enhanced recovery.

This is what is involved in appointments in the pregnancy component of the pathway

“Before falling pregnant I was completely unaware of the physiological element of birth, and not to mention petrified of giving birth! Working with Emily I learned about the specifics of my body, I worked on my pelvic floor, and we prepared for birth together. When I walked out of my prep appointment I felt confident and empowered to go through labour”. Grace, Tauranga.

Once you have had your baby, we can also support you through this time and get you back to doing what you love. This is what this component of the pathway looks like.

“Even though my birth didn’t quite go the way I would have liked, I was so proud of myself at the end of it and all the choices I made were informed with my recovery in mind. When I got home from the hospital, I knew exactly what I could do to help my recovery and after a full debrief with Emily I was able to recover really well and get back to doing what I love, better yet I’m actually stronger than I was pre-pregnancy”. Grace, Tauranga

The needs of every woman are different, but this pathway helps to guide you on ways you can take control and support your body as best you can.

You can enter this pathway at either of the “WOF” appointments as these are the comprehensive appointments, and we can tailor the pathway to suit your needs. Always remember that it is never too late to seek support.

If you have any questions or wondering if this is right for you, reach out to your pelvic health physio.
